In 1737, clockmaker Franz Ketter invented the first cuckoo clock. Nearly 300 years later the 8-day cuckoo clock remains popular throughout the world still using mechanical movements and displaying finely detailed carvings. This particular type of clock gets its name from the internal 8-day mechanical movement driving the clock. The 8 day movement requires winding once per week at a minimum. Because the 8 day clock is mechanical you must pull the chains up to reset the weights each week which keeps the clock moving and the cuckoo calling . Many people prefer an 8 day cycle cuckoo clock over the 1 day since it does not have to be wound as often. more....
